This is an
excellent HOW TO book that contains a lot of information that's not included
in other books. Over 70 knots, hitches, splices and pulley systems are
described in 200 step-by-step, easy to follow illustrations. Tips on
training and handling pack stock on the trail and in camp, as well as
packing, are included.
It's author,
Stacy Gebhards, who now lives in McCall, Idaho, with his wife, Maria, has
packed with horses and mules since 1957 throughout the northern Rockies. He
shows how to pack game animals, mantied cargo, boxes, panniers, tools,
lumber, gravel and even live trout, using sawbuck, Decker and riding
saddles.
In addition
to spending 25 years doing 14-day elk hunts in the upper Selway River
Wilderness of Idaho, Stacy has worked with the US Forest Service, Idaho Fish
and Game, and conducted training classes and seminars on packing techniques.
This book is a must for your reference library. |
